The Skin Care Routine….
As a therapist I regularly ask people questions relating to their skin care.
"Are you cleansing and toning morning and night?" "How often are you exfoliating?" "Are you including enough water, fruit and veg in your diet to hydrate your body?"
More often than not I am met with a look of astonishment..... Skin care routine?? EVERY morning and night? Who has time for that? Do I really need to exfoliate?
The answer to these questions is a definite EVERYBODY, YES and YES again.
Let's face it (pardon the pun) we all like to look good, feel good and also, this may seem unrelated, sleep well. Yet so many people feel that this is a pointless task. That somehow wiping away the days dirt and grime from the face is in some way unnecessary.
Our faces are the most exposed area of our bodies, in fact the only area that in general is exposed at all times of the day. It comes up against wind, snow, rain, sun (although not so much of this one, I do live in Manchester) It is also the most expressive part of the body and is home to 43 different muscles that are constantly working whether we are happy, sad, smiling, frowning, eating, laughing, coughing, you name it, the face is working it and yet somehow it is expected to look fresh and radiant with absolutely no TLC.... How exactly??
Well, I feel that it is down to us as individuals to make our faces feel special. To treat them to some first class pampering. Yes, we can head off for a facial once a month, this is a fantastic way to give your skin a much needed boost, but there needs to be maintenance in between. The best way to do this is with a routine....
I’m sure that most of you will be aware of or may indeed be practising the Buddhist ritual of Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, and is often used as a therapeutic technique.
