An excess of oil on the skin can be a nightmare. Your makeup melts off in seconds and you practically shine in a room with bright lighting. But fret not, here at Buddha Beauty, we’ve put together our top 10 tips for how to deal with oily skin. After all, it is the only skin you have..
Wash your face twice a day. This should take place once in the morning you apply any cosmetics and once in the evening before bed. Similarly to washing the hair too frequently, washing your face too often can strip the skin of its natural oils and therefore make it oily.
Use a gentle cleanser. You do not want something too harsh on the skin. In fact, a cleanser which was specifically formulated for oily skin is likely the best option.
Do not scrub your face too harshly as this will generate oil production.
Use toner on areas that are oily such as the T zone to remove any excess. If you use toner in areas which are not oily, it can create dry patches.
If you find that oil builds up in between your morning and evening washes, use specially formulated blotting pads or paper. They are portable and allow you to freshen up anywhere.
It may seem like you have too much moisture on your face but you still need to moisturise. Choose wisely; stay away from creams and heavy moisturisers and look for water based and oil free products.
With foundation, it is best to opt for gel, liquid or powder based products.
Remember to exfoliate once a week in order to loosen the pores and remove any excess dirt and oils.
Resist the temptation to pick pimples as these will cause scarring on the face. It will also spread the bacteria and cause further pimples.
Despite the disadvantages, remember that those with oily skin tend to age slower! Stay positive!
