Exfoliation Do's and Don't's - Buddha Beauty Skincare

Exfoliation Do's and Don't's

Exfoliation is a crucial component in any skincare routine since it removes dead skin cells and encourages cell rejuvenation, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin. However, if you exfoliate too much it can do more harm than good so to prevent harming your skin when exfoliating, there are several do's and don'ts to bear in mind.
Llewelyn has worked with thousands of clients over the years and is very experienced in how to care for your skin. Here are his top tips for exfoliating!

How To Exfoliate:
Exfoliate 1-2 times a week, depending on your skin type, twice a week for more oilier skin.
Choose an exfoliator that is suitable for your skin type and is gentle to use. Physical exfoliants like scrubs or brushes are typically harsher than chemical exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).
Do a patch test: To prevent potential irritability or allergic responses, always perform a patch test before using new exfoliants on your face.
Moisturise after exfoliating: Exfoliation can dry up your skin, so it's crucial to moisturise afterwards to keep your skin hydrated. Choose from any of our Buddha Beauty Facial Moisturizers for great results.

Avoiding Exfoliation:
It's important to follow a schedule that is suggested for your skin type. It's easy to think you should exfoliate every day but you must avoid over-exfoliating as this can harm your skin and cause inflammation, redness, and even breakouts.
Don't use harsh physical exfoliants: Physical exfoliants containing large, abrasive particles should be avoided since they might irritate the skin and produce microtears.
If you have active zits or sunburn, avoid exfoliating because this may aggravate the condition. Exfoliating over damaged skin can also worsen the burn.
Exfoliants shouldn't be used near the eyes because the skin around the eyes is delicate and should not be exposed to exfoliants.

In conclusion, exfoliation is a crucial part in any skincare regimen but it must be used correctly to prevent skin damage. Patch test new products, use a vegan scrub or polish, follow with a moisturizer, and make sure you exfoliate at the suggested frequency for your skin type. You will definitely see the advantages of exfoliating without harming your skin by following our suggestions above.
